The FIDIC publishes a number of international standard forms of contract for infrastructure projects with the goal of improving the quality of work, promoting business ethics, and achieving sustainability in the consulting engineering industry. The FIDIC Contract Users Awards are presented to international infrastructure projects that make the best use of FIDIC standard forms of contract in the execution of their projects. This is the fourth time this award has been presented. In the past, it has been given to projects such as a port terminal project in Morocco and a railway project in Turkey. This year, the Project was selected from among four finalists. The Project was improvement works of the largest water treatment plant in the Philippines, with a capacity of 1.5 million m3 per day (equivalent to a supply for approximately 6 million people). The project included the installation of inclined settlers and sludge scrapers in sedimentation basins and the construction of new sludge treatment facility, with the aim of improving water treatment capacity and operational efficiency, as well as the structural retrofit of sedimentation and filtration basins and administration buildings. In addition, a solar power generation system was installed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to these resilience and sustainability improvement measures that contribute to the stable supply of safe water to local residents, the Project was rated highly for its smooth execution in accordance with the FIDIC standard contract forms despite various restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. JFE Engineering Corporation will continue to contribute to infrastructure development, particularly in Southeast Asia where the major cities have been rapidly urbanized with increasing needs for water treatment and sewage treatment plants, by providing optimal technical proposals and smooth project execution.
