Work Detail A new Power-as-a-Service deal struck in Nigerias energy sector aims to reduce the countrys reliance on diesel generators in favour of solar PV and battery storage, AP Renewables and PowerGen have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a "Power-as-a-Service (PaaS)" business solution. This is designed to transition retail outlets from conventional diesel generators and grid power supply to distributed renewable energy systems (DREs) consisting of solar FV and battery storage. The companies said this solution is expected to deliver 10+MW of renewable energy. The project will seek to drive energy cost savings and C02 emission reductions for Ardova PLCs retail stations across Nigeria. Ardovas retail stations will operate as energy hubs that will provide electricity to small businesses, households and communities within its surrounding environment. Nigerias national grid suffers frequent and extensive power outages because of outdated infrastructure and insufficient capacity. Electricity users supplement their power supply with self-generation, mainly through diesel generators. These are expensive to run, create air pollution and contribute to the countrys growing C02 emissions profile. AP Renewables (APR) is a fully-owned subsidiary of Ardova PLC with the mandate of profitably driving its diversification into the renewable energy business segment through several streams, one of which is the Power-as-a-Service. PowerGen is a renewable utility operating across Africa that develops and operates the next generation of power infrastructure. "Ardova is proud to collaborate with PowerGen to drive the generation of alternative power. This partnership reiterates our efforts in the clean energy revolution. This aspiration aligns with PowerGens objective to drive sustainability and efficiency through the deployment of renewable energy/ said Olumide Adeosun, Ardova Pic CEO.
