Work Detail The Norwegian energy company is promoting a laboratory at 3,800 meters above sea level to test photovoltaic panels using monocrystalline, polycrystalline, bifacial and thin-film technology, and will extend the tests for two years. A 15-person team from Norwegian energy company Statkraft leads the SolarLab project, which serves as a training and testing center to compare the efficiency and performance of four different types of solar technology (thin-film, monocrystalline, polycrystalline, and bifacial) throughout all seasons and all kinds of weather conditions. It has 40 kWp of installed capacity, 83 MWh of annual generation and is located at 3,800 meters above sea level. The Solar Laboratory is located in Junín, less than a kilometer from the Malpaso Hydroelectric Power Plant, owned and operated by Statkraft Peru. This project is made up of the MatER-PUCP team (PUCP Materials Science and Renewable Energies Group), led by Dr. Juan Amaru Palomino Töfflinger. The initial report of the agreement, called "Experimental methodology of the project for the characterization, monitoring and energy evaluation of photovoltaic systems", was presented during the month of November: for two years the performance of the installation will be studied, and how each type of height technology. Quality control tests will also be carried out on the panels and the photovoltaic installation using an Electroluminescence System, Power Analyzer and IV Curve Tracer. “Thanks to the results and knowledge acquired during this research project, we will be able to make decisions in the design stage of Lupi, selecting the optimal PV technology for installations at height, and also apply quality controls that have already been tested. In this way, operational risks will be minimized,” explains Statkraft.
