Work Detail Australia’s Victoria State is setting out a road surveying plan. An extensive road surveying process will be used to assess the condition of roads in Australia’s Victoria State. The work is needed following extensive flooding, which has damaged many roads and forms part of the state’s Emergency Road Repair Blitz. A total of 8,400km of roads will be surveyed to determine whether repair works are required as well as what type of maintenance work and improvements will be needed. A budget of US$115 million (A$165 million) has been set for the work. The Intelligent Pavement Assessment Vehicle (iPAVe) will be used for the surveying process as the machine is equipped with sophisticated laser scanning systems able to analyse a road’s structural condition. The iPAVe machine also feaures ground-penetrating radar (GPR) equipment, allowing it to assess a road’s base structure. The iPAVe machine is operated by the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB).
