Work Detail EDF Renewables North America has said that it has executed a 20-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Thermo Fisher Scientific -a leader in serving science across the globe. EDF Renewables held that the VPPA covers the full output of the 200-megawatt ac/256 MWdc Millers Branch Solar Project, which is located in Texas. The solar project will be commercially operational in December 2025. With the addition of Millers Branch to Thermo Fishers renewable energy procurement portfolio, the Company has purchased enough renewable energy to match 100% of its current annual electricity consumption in the US by 2026, EDF Renewables said that the project is expected to generate 545,000 MWh of renewable energy annually, enough to meet the consumption of nearly 51,000 average homes once its complete. This is equivalent to avoiding over 386,000 metric tons of carbon (CO2) emissions annually which represents the greenhouse gas emissions from over 83,000 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles driven over the course of one year. Valerie Barros, Senior Director of Origination and Power Marketing, EDF Renewables, said, "The project will also contribute to the local economy - the construction phase will provide job creation, local spending with vendors, and an expanded tax base. We applaud Thermo Fisher for taking bold action to power its U.S. sites with 100% renewable electricity and are honored to partner with them on these long-term purchase agreements." EDF Renewables claims to be one of the largest renewable developers in North America that has more than 35 years of experience and 24 GW of wind, solar, and storage projects. EDF Renewables recently operationalised Palen Solar site and started delivering green energy to the grid. This site consists of four projects totaling 620 megawatts (MWdc) of solar PV plus 200 MWh of battery energy storage. The RE firm also signed a 15-year VPPA with McDonalds under which its 255 MWac / 332 MWdc Apollo Solar project will help the fast food company to purchase green energy and meet its sustainability goals.
