Governor Omar Perotti signed the decree by which the works were awarded with an investment of more than $1,150 million. "Strengthening and expanding the health infrastructure of the province is one of the priorities of the administration," said Minister Frana.
The government of Omar Perotti, through the Ministry of Infrastructure, Public Services and Habitat, awarded the firm ICA SRL for the sum of $1,157,084,132, the work of expanding the Guard and Emergency wing and the construction of the new Oncohematology Service, which will allow the addition of 14 inpatient units at the Orlando Alassia Hospital in Santa Fe and will have an execution period of 300 days.
In this regard, the Minister of Infrastructure, Public Services and Habitat, Silvina Frana, welcomed the news and highlighted the provincial investment in health matters, stating that "the works we are developing to improve the health service is one of the beacons of the management of Governor Omar Perotti, because we are investing to care for people, and in this case, because we are talking about children and adolescents”.
"The hospital is a place and a heritage highly valued by the people of Santa Fe, who had been without interventions for more than 20 years, it is a place that deserved this and much more" and added: "the patients who were uprooted to be treated for oncology, they will no longer have to leave, and having a containment space for families is essential to get ahead, "he continued.
"Here there was a joint effort between the hospital authorities, the Mateo Esquivo Foundation, the community and the provincial government, to articulate a project that will begin to become a reality in a short time," Frana concluded.
A history of struggle
For its part, from the Mateo Esquivo Foundation, they explained the relevance of the work: «It is very difficult to summarize the path that has passed since that year 2008, when together with directors of the Dr. Orlando Alassia hospital, we proposed to travel together the way of creating a pediatric oncology service for our city and region. To say that there were not a few difficulties that we faced on that path, but the determination of the collaborators of the Foundation and of the directors and staff of the hospital, to build something so difficult was much more powerful, "said Diego Esquivo.
«We were lucky to have the professionals, doctors, nurses, support, who despite the adversities joined the project, contributing effort beyond their limits. We have many people and companies that believed in the project and contributed the funds for the important investments we made in the hospital. And so, without pause, it was possible to consolidate a high-ranking pediatric oncology service », he continued.
“Secondly, we never stop pursuing the dream that the hospital, as indicated by the National Cancer Institute, and accordingly, has its own hospitalization and treatment sector for children who are unfortunately going through the disease. We knocked on all the doors, we were listened to, we participated in projects, but as we all know, intentions must be transformed into reality, and our dreams and illusions faded after each meeting, year after year”, lamented Esquivo.
«And as I said at the time, one day, the moment to translate the intentions into deeds arrived. First was the bidding process, then the opening of envelopes from the companies, and finally, they informed us that the work was awarded, and will begin to be executed.
«We begin to retrace now, the time that is missing to be able to have that space, which allows us to treat our children in the best possible care conditions, and in our beloved Dr. Orlando Alassia public hospital. Without a doubt, I believe that it is the most important investment in pediatric health in the last 20 years in our city.”
The works
Construction and expansion, Guard and Emergency and new Oncohematology Service of the Orlando Alassia Hospital, includes the intervention of the Guard and Emergency wing, equipping it with technology and equipment.
On the ground floor there are: Admission, Guard Offices, Surgery, Observation Room for 14 beds, Shock Room, Nursing Office and Guards, and Ambulance entrance, as well as circulatory nuclei with elevators and stairs.
On the upper floor, the construction of the new Oncohematology Service will be carried out, which will allow adding 14 hospitalization units, having on the same surface Admission, Laboratory, room with bell for reconstitution of medicines and laboratory, to which are added, offices, Hospital Day and therapy infusion room and games room.
The whole set is completed with the construction of a square that links the existing building with the new one, relating the use of interior and exterior spaces, and defining the main pedestrian entrance to the New Guard.
The new covered area will have a total of 2,621.42 m², and the semi-covered area, 133.45 m².
