Work Detail It will have three thyssenkrupp nucera standard 20 MW electrolysers with a total capacity of 60 MW in the first phase, to be expanded to several hundred MW in the second phase. Unigel, one of the largest chemical companies in Brazil and the largest manufacturer of nitrogenous fertilizers in the country, is going to install the first green hydrogen plant on an industrial scale in Brazil. In a statement that it has shared with pv magazine , it affirms that it will invest a total of US$ 120 million in the development of the green hydrogen production site with technology from thyssenkrupp nucera, a joint venture between the German technology company and the Italian Industrie De Nora, offers technologies for electrolysis plants. He is engaged in the engineering, procurement and construction of electrochemical plants and has a track record of more than 600 projects with a total rating of more than 10 GW already successfully installed. It offers water electrolysis technology to produce green hydrogen. The unit will power one of the largest green ammonia plants by capacity when it begins production scheduled for late 2023. In the first phase of the project, Unigel will install three standard 20 MW electrolysers from thyssenkrupp nucera, for a total capacity of 60 MW. The company plans to quadruple its green hydrogen production in the years following the inauguration by expanding the electrolyser plant to a several hundred MW facility, which will produce approximately 40,000 tons of green hydrogen. The new factory is expected to employ more than 500 people. Located in the Camaçari Industrial Complex, in the state of Bahia, the new plant will have an initial production capacity of 10,000 tons/year of green hydrogen and 60,000 tons/year of green ammonia. The products will be offered to customers who want to decarbonize their production chains, such as the steel industry, oil refining and electronic fuels. Green ammonia will also be used in the Unigel value chain, as it is a raw material in the manufacture of fertilizers and acrylics. No further details have been communicated about the renewable facilities that will feed the electrolyser, nor about the temporary plans of the project. “Given the potential of Brazil in the generation of wind and solar energy, we believe that the country has a great opportunity to be a reference for the world in green hydrogen, a solution that brings versatility to transform renewable energy into raw materials and zero carbon fuels” says Roberto Noronha Santos, CEO of Unigel.
