Prysmian P-Laser technology reduces CO2 emissions by 40% in the manufacture of the cable thanks to a special sheath of plant origin instead of chemical.
Prysmian Group, is an Italian multinational based in Milan specialized in the production of electrical cable for use in the energy and telecommunications sectors and for optical fibers. Prysmian is present in North America with 23 plants, 48 ??in Europe, 13 in LATAM, 7 MEAT, and 13 APAC.
This week it announced that it had been awarded "significant lots" in a global Enel tender for the supply of innovative power distribution cables in Italy, Spain and Latin America.
The agreement lasts for three years, with a combination of Low and Medium Voltage cables based on P-Laser technology, which allows a significant reduction in CO2 emissions thanks to a special sheath of plant origin instead of chemical. P-Laser cables represent 80% of the supply and will be manufactured in Prysmian Group plants mainly in Italy, Spain and Latin America.

According to the company, the product is "a world first in the industry": P-Laser is the first 100% recyclable, eco-sustainable and high-performance cable technology based on a production process that reduces CO2 emissions by a 40% and is fully compatible with legacy cable technologies already installed. The P-Laser cable system is based on the use of a patented thermoplastic material, HPTE (High Performance Thermoplastic Elastomer), which guarantees that the product is totally recyclable, a simplified manufacturing process and a lower environmental impact than traditional XLPE ( bonded polyethylene). In addition, according to the manufacturer, this technology offers better electrical characteristics and, in particular, higher performance at high temperatures, greater reliability and higher productivity.
Prysmian Group will also support Enel in the digitized management of energy distribution networks, providing its Alesea IoT solution, a virtual assistant for managing cable drums. |
