The HyEx project – Green Hydrogen Production, located in Tocopilla, Antofagasta, has received environmental approval. The start date of the works is January 2024 and generation is expected to start in July 2025.
The Antofagasta Region Evaluation Commission has tested the environmental qualification of the HyEx project – Green Hydrogen Production, presented by Engie Latam by complying with current environmental regulations applicable in Chile.
The project aims to build and operate a green hydrogen production plant, which will feed the operation of a green ammonia plant , with the purpose of leveraging the energy transition and the Chilean States goal of achieving carbon neutrality for the year 2050.
The project will be located in the Commune and Province of Tocopilla, Antofagasta Region, at a distance of approximately 25 km west of the city of Tocopilla, on land belonging to Engie, where the Tamaya Diesel Power Plant is located.
Additionally, there is a photovoltaic park under construction in the sector, which will be used to provide renewable electricity to the Project, and it is also close to the Tocopilla Thermal Power Plant, from where the necessary water for hydrogen production will be supplied, allowing stable and reliable production.
The estimated start date for the works is January 2, 2024. Start-up with stable generation of H2 is scheduled for July 1, 2025. |
