Disney has announced plans to develop a series of residential neighbourhoods in the US, “infused with the Company’s special brand of magic” – the first of which is earmarked for the Coachella Valley in California.
According to the company, the aim of these planned communities is to create the sense of living in a Disney resort, and a team of company “imagineers” will join project teams to generate “creative concepts” that realise the aim.
The plans will begin with the Cotino settlement in California. This will offer a range of homes from estates, single family homes and condominiums, as well as a hotel and shops, a promenade and a 24-acre “oasis” with a public beach park.
Residents will also be able to sign up for club membership, which will provide access to wellness programmes, live performances, cookery classes and seminars.
Disney has not provided the details for size and population of Cotino and the locations of the other “Storyliving” neighbourhoods, apart from saying each site would draw on its particular surroundings.
