Work Detail School starts Wednesday, August 31, for students at the Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School. Superintendent Robert A. Dutch said that students will have several changes to look forward to.

First, students in several shops will benefit from an expanded CAD (computer aided design) program. The expansion will provide students in the carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and landscaping shops the opportunity to learn architectural drafting.

Additionally, students who are enrolled in the automotive and engineering programs will be able to learn mechanical drafting.

Another change will be the school’s new Information Technology building. The 3,800-square-foot building was designed to house about 60 students who are enrolled in the program, which is in demand.

“We have a new Information Technology building opening which will allow us to expand the popular program by five students per grade,” Mr. Dutch said.

In the new building, IT students will be learning networking (internet and computer-to-computer connections), hardware (building and repairing computers), and programming (coding, computer languages, software and game programming).

The addition of the new building will free up classroom space in the main building.

“For students, the main thing they will notice is the smaller class sizes with the increased classroom space created by moving the Information Technology program to their new building,” Mr. Dutch said.

By the end of September, Mr. Dutch expects that the solar canopy in the parking lot will be constructed and functional.

The canopy is being installed at no cost to taxpayers by Green Seal Environmental and is expected to save the school $28,350 in energy costs every year.

Lastly, the wastewater treatment facility on campus is fully operational. This facility will provide students in Environmental Technology to learn how to operate a wastewater treatment plant. Mr. Dutch said that upon graduation, students will be able to receive a Level II wastewater operator’s license.
