Work Detail Memorandum of Understanding signed between GCO and CrossBoundary Energy aims to reduce carbon emissions at Dogo, where mineral sands containing titanium dioxide and zircon are mined The independent electricity producer CrossBoundary Energy ( CBE ) announced, on September 6, the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Grande Côte Opérations ( GCO ), for the construction of a 13 megawatt solar power plant and a energy storage on 08 MW batteries at the Dogo industrial site (north of the Senegalese capital Dakar). The solar plant will be hybridized to the energy source currently used to power the site. Delivery is scheduled for early 2023. CBE is responsible for designing, building and operating the plant, through a 15-year electricity purchase contract. For GCO, which belongs to the company TiZir - a subsidiary of the French mining group Eramet -, the solar project aims to reduce carbon emissions on the site. Overall, Eramet plans to reduce its carbon footprint by 40% by 2035. at Dogo, GCO is mining mineral sands containing ilmenite and zircon . This ilmenite largely contains titanium dioxide , which is used in the manufacture of paints, plastics and papers. Zircon is used “in the ceramic industry or for many applications, such as abrasive or abrasion resistant materials, jewelry (zirconium dioxide), nuclear (zirconium metal), prostheses. dental ” , among others, can be read on the Eramet website. CBE, with whom GCO signed the MoU for the solar power plant, is a subsidiary of CrossBoundary Group . The independent power producer was launched in 2015, with a focus on providing renewable energy services to industrial and commercial sectors in sub-Saharan Africa.
