Work Detail Statesville and the surrounding area is experiencing an uptick in restaurants, retail operations and other businesses as developers have begun picking up where they left off when the 2008 recession hit, according to City of Statesville Planning Director David Currier

The slate of business under development across Statesville right now is greater than it’s been in recent years, City Planner Elaine Anthony said.

Here’s the status of some restaurants and retail businesses that are in the works for the Statesville area:

Broad Street Burger Company, 111 E. Broad St.

The Broad Street Burger Co. – at the old Hop’s Place location -- is slowly taking shape. Co-owners Jason Cole and Andrea Chadwick are now renovating the building’s second floor for seating. Cole said the area will offer a great view of downtown Statesville. Expected opening: October.

D’s ‘Nuts, 209 W. Front St.

Owners Matthew and Danielle Key plan to offer free samples leading up to the opening of the downtown doughnut shop. D’s ‘Nuts plans to offer a variety of customized doughnuts and delivery. Expected opening: This week.

Dunkin’ Donuts, 1725 E. Broad St.

The chain’s second Statesville location will be at the site of the old Bojangles. Anthony said the building construction should begin soon. Expected opening: unknown.

McDonald’s, 3202 Taylorsville Highway

The new McDonald’s near Island Ford Road is replacing the now-demolished building that housed the Shiki Japanese restaurant. Anthony said the plans have been approved with the city, and construction typically takes between three and six months. Expected opening: unknown.

Hardee’s/Times

Concrete is being poured and electric lines are being installed at the 1.43-acre site of the Hardee’s/Times Oil gas station, according to Times Oil construction director Elgin Clark. Expected opening: early October.

Ingles, Sullivan Road near I-40

Workers are continuing to clear the site of the former Lodge Inn & Suites. The roughly 72,000-square-foot Ingles Market will feature an on-site gas station and a Starbucks Coffee stand. Expected opening: 2017.

Publix, North Pointe Shopping Center, Turnersburg Highway

The 45,000-square-foot store will be constructed in the North Pointe shopping center beside Lowe’s Home Improvement and will employ about 100 people, according to Publix Markets Representative Kim Reynolds. Expected opening: 2017.

Mother’s Nest, 531 N. Greenbriar Road

Owner of Mother’s Nest boutique, Hannah Rash, opened the doors near Jay Bee’s restaurant a little more than a month ago. In addition to maternity wear, baby clothing and toys, the store offers monthly classes and workshops for new mothers.

AT&T retail store, 151 Turnersburg Highway

The store will be located near the Chili’s Grill and Bar and Zaxby’s. The 2,900-square-foot building will also include an additional retail space. The building is under construction. Expected opening: unknown.

O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, 576 Mocksville Highway

The 7,200-square-foot O’Reilly’s Auto Parts is under construction, and concrete is being poured for the floors, Currier said. Expected opening: unknown.
