Procurement News Notice

PNN 3146
Work Detail The Township has issued a CodeRed alert notifying residents of underground cable work to begin in Union starting Saturday, August 27.

Work will occur at the following locations in Union, Maplewood and Irvington:

Stanley Terrace, Union; just outside the PSE&G station

Edmund Terrace, Union; between Stanley & Pleasant Pkwy
Van Ness Terrace, Maplewood; between Ostwood & Berkley
Stuyvesant Ave, Irvington; between 40th & Walker Avenues

PSE&G notified affected residents via a letter of the emergency repair activity. According to the letter “this emergency work is necessary to make vital repairs to one of PSE&G’s underground electric circuits servicing your community and the surrounding areas. This construction work will not interrupt your electric service. While PSE&G understands the inconvenience that this may cause, it is essential and will ensure safe and reliable electric service to residents, businesses, and civic facilities in your community.”

PSE&G provided the following information:

*Construction will take place on Stuyvesant Avenue between 40th Street and Walker Avenue. During construction, PSE&G will maintain one lane of traffic eastbound on Stuyvesant Avenue.

*Repairs are expected to last approximately four to six weeks. PSE&G indicated they do not know the full scope of repair activities until further investigation occurs, they state it may require 24/7 work at the site. All efforts will be made to reduce noise while work is being done. However, some unavoidable noise may occur intermittently during the completion of repairs.

*During construction, it is essential that you and anyone on your property, including children and pets, refrain from going near the construction work zones. The area outside the work zone is safe for residents in your community.

*When the circuit repair work is complete, PSE&G will repair roads with temporary pavement until the ground settles. This takes about 45 to 90 days, depending on the weather and soil conditions. PSE&G then restores the roads with permanent paving in accordance with town ordinance and paving requirements.

PSE&G is partnering with Township police to minimize any traffic concerns or inconvenience to the public. Motorists should slow down and follow detour signs while driving through the construction area.
