Work Detail Dar es Salam Water and Sewerage Authority (Dawasa) has awarded the $300bn Mwanga-Same-Korogwe drinking water project in Tanzania to Badr East Africa Enterprises, replacing another contractor M.A. Kharafi & Sons, which was unable to meet deadlines. The project was launched in 2014 and scheduled to be completed in 2017. However, M.A. Kharafi & Sons could not deliver the drinking water production facilities as per schedule, reported Pumps-africa.com. M.A. Kharafi and Sons and Badr East Africa Enterprises were initially awarded contracts to develop the water project. Now Dawasa has awarded Badr East Africa Enterprises the task of constructing the water distribution infrastructures, with a strict completion deadline of March this year. The first phase of the project involves construction and operation of raw water infrastructure, a drinking water plant along with storage tanks, 12km pipelines and an electricity line to supply power to the infrastructure. This phase will cover nine villages over three districts. The second phase of the project involves construction of a storage tank in Kiverenge, a water pumping station in Kisangara, and gravity main and service tanks to cater to the water requirements of 28 villages and two small towns. These infrastructures are expected to improve the supply of drinking water for 440,000 inhabitants. A part of the project is being funded by Government of Tanzania, which has also raised financing for the multi-billion project from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (Badea), the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), the Opep Fund for International Development (Fodi) and the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).
