Work Detail The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a potential foreign military sale (FMS) of Mk-V fast patrol boats, equipment, training, and support.

United States Marine Incorporated (USMI) has been appointed as the prime contractor for the sale, which is worth $124.02m. It is expected to improve the defence capabilities of Qatar, a strategic ally to the US.

As well as the patrol boats, eight M2HB .50 calibre machine guns and ammunition, forward looking infrared (FLIR) systems, MLG 27mm gun systems with ammunition, and 27mm target practice ammunition were requested.

an important force in promoting political stability and economic progress in the Persian Gulf region. In April this year, Qatar also requested a $260m sale of RIM-116C and RIM-116C-2 rolling airframe missiles (RAM) from the US.

As part of its naval modernisation plan, the country's Emiri Naval Forces also signed a €4bn contract in June with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to build and deliver four more 100m corvettes, one amphibious landing platform dock, and two offshore patrol vessels.
