Work Detail The Federal Government of Pakistan has approved two road projects to be procured on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis. These projects are N-25 Karachi-Quetta Road and Mianwali-Muzaffargarh Road projects with a total investment of approximately PAK 300 billion (US$ 1.8 billion). The N-25 highway is a 790 km long road stretch that connects Karachi Port in Sindh province with Quetta in Balochistan. The project is worth approximately PAK 200 billion (USD 1.2 billion). The scope of works of the project involves rehabilitation of the existing road and construction of additional carriageways. This road stretch is a part of the road that provides access to Afganistan and connects Karachi with Chaman on the border of Afganistan. It was agreed that the design and commercial feasibility study of the project will be ready by March 30, 2021, with the tender launched by mid-September 2021. The Mianwali-Muzaffargarh Road will be 286 km long and will connect Mianwali and Muzaffargarh in Punjab province. The project is worth approximately PAK 100 billion (USD 597 million). The scope of works will include dualizing the road section and the rehabilitation of existing 2-lane facilities with structure on Build, Own & Transfer (BOT) basis. Even though the project is a provincial road, it was federalized and the National Highway Authority (NHA) took over it. The design and feasibility study for the project should be submitted by February 28, 2021. The letters of intent will be sought by April 2021 with the aim to award the contract by the end of January 2021.
