Work Detail Power and telecom cable manufacturer Hellenic Cables has signed an agreement with Semco Maritime to supply inter-array cables for the Mayflower Wind project located off the coast of Massachusetts, US. Mayflower Wind project is a joint venture (JV) between Shell New Energies and EDPR Offshore North America. Last October, Massachusetts selected Mayflower Wind to supply 804MW clean, renewable energy to customers within the state. The wind energy supply to electricity customers is expected to begin in 2025. The Mayflower Wind project will help to implement the Commonwealth’s Section 83C offshore wind development procurement process. According to the latest agreement, Hellenic Cables will design, supply and store 66kV, XLPE insulated submarine inter-array cables. The 300km inter-array cables will establish a connection between the project’s wind turbines and an offshore substation. Hellenic will manufacture the cables for the project at its cable production facility located in Corinth, Greece. By the end of 2023, the company aims to complete the cable production and expects to carry out the final installation works at the site by 2025. Hellenic said: “Hellenic Cables is proud to support Mayflower Wind in this pioneering project, one of the first commercial-scale offshore wind projects in the US, with its top-tier cable design and manufacturing expertise. “In doing so, Hellenic Cables is also proud to contribute in enabling the clean energy transition in the US.” Recently, the company strengthened its presence in the US offshore wind market by establishing the wholly owned subsidiary Hellenic Cables America.
