Megha Engineering and Infrastructures (MEIL) has commenced work on the stalled Polavaram large irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh. The project worth Rs 50,000 crore is being funded by the Centre as a national project.
MEIL will complete the project on a fast-track mode by planning and pooling resources for the Rs 4,358 crore contract awarded to it, which includes the hydel power project.
The company wants to begin the main reservoir work and the hydropower station work simultaneously. The company intends to complete the Polavaram multipurpose project within the stipulated time of two years to irrigate 7.2 lakh acre and produce 960 MW of hydropower, apart from supplying 23.44 TMC of drinking water to Visakhapatnam. |
