Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday unveiled a new project to establish a plant to process the fallow metal, with advanced technologies, for use in defense industries.
This came in a speech to Erdogan during his participation in the activities of the 29th consultation and evaluation meeting of the "Justice and Development Party" in the capital Ankara.
Erdogan said the plant, which will be the cornerstone, in Balikesir province, northwest Turkey, will produce "boron carbide" used mainly in tactical vehicles, helicopters, aircraft, light armor and vests for soldiers.
Turkey holds about 73 percent of the worlds reserves of boron metal, called abbreviation.
The derivatives of this metal are involved in many sectors, particularly automotive, construction and computer systems, as well as defense industries.
On the other hand, Erdogan pointed out that Turkey started commercial production of oil through hydraulic fracturing technology for the first time, in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir.
He stressed that the government is determined to expand the scope of this technology, and continue to open new oil wells.
Erdogan also pointed to the discovery of new gas fields in the region of Thrace, northwest of the country, early this year, which would double the total reserves of Turkeys natural gas.
He explained that the new fields contain reserves estimated at 3 billion cubic meters, which meets the needs of 300 thousand families of gas, over 10 years.
In his speech, Erdogan also addressed the Turkish Torrent project, which aims to transport Russian gas, to Turkey and Europe, via the Black Sea.
He pointed to the completion of part of the pipeline passing from under the sea, last year, and stated that it will start pumping gas from Russia, through the "Turkish Torrent", the end of this year. |
