The government focuses on the implementation of vital projects in the economic and service sectors covering all governorates
MUSCAT - The Sultanate is working to accelerate the pace of the national economy by establishing new projects and injecting additional funds into the economy, according to statistics compiled by the Oman News Agency (ONA). For the full year 2018, the Board has allocated RO 129 million.
During the current year, the Sultanate adopted an expansionary approach to allow the private sector to acquire new business. It also focused on completing the implementation of a number of vital projects.According to the State General Budget for the current year, the Government allocated RO 2.6 billion for investment expenses, including 1.2 RO 1 billion for development expenses, RO 800 million for oil production and RO 500 million for gas production. The estimated total public expenditure in the current years budget is RO 12.9 billion, an increase of RO 400 million over the estimated expenditure in last years budget.
According to the statistical data issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information, total government expenditure at the end of last May amounted to about RO5.75 billion, of which about 3.6 billion RO for current expenses, RO 868.2 million for investment expenses and RO 175 million for contributions and support in addition to actual expenses. Under settlement amounting to RO 448.5 million not included in the previous three items.
From January to August 7, the Tender Board held eight meetings.The number of tenders awarded was 86, which is twice the number for the whole of 2018.The number of tenders awarded by the Board last year reached 46. The Council is responsible for awarding government projects costing more than OMR 3 million, while government units award tenders that are less expensive, but there are no published official statistics for the total projects awarded by government units worth less than OMR 3 million.
The projects approved by the Tender Board during the current year included various economic, social, health, educational and other sectors, and in terms of cost came in the forefront: Tender to provide educational services for the curricula of academic and technical studies of technical colleges of the Ministry of Manpower for a period of three years at a cost of about 114.4 million Omani riyals. Second place was the addition of the third and fourth lanes for the duplication of the Rusayl-Nizwa road from the Muscat highway intersection to the eastern highway intersection (part I) for RO 86.2 million. Intersections and bridges within the Al Batinah Highway project (7th package) worth RO 81.3 million.
In the road projects, the Council also approved the construction of two tunnels and the implementation of additional works for the third lane of the Duplication of Sharqiya Highway (Phase I - Part I) at RO 71.5 million. Duplication of the road of Aqaba Al Rustaq in Al Batinah South Governorate by more than RO 2 million.
This year, the Tender Board awarded three projects in the field of protection dams: the construction of the Dam Dam in Al Jafnain area in Muscat Governorate for RO 45.6 million, the construction of the flood protection dam in Wadi Adi area in the Governorate of Muscat by RO 36 million and the construction of the Dam Dam. The risk of flooding in Al Jafina area in the wilayat of Amerat in Muscat Governorate is about RO 34.6 million.
In the health sector, several tenders were awarded, including: supply of medicines, vaccines and serums to the Ministry of Health in the amount of RO 29.1 million, and three tenders to provide technicians for the operation and maintenance of health equipment belonging to the Ministry of Health in the provinces of Dhofar and South East at a total cost of about 11.8 million.
In the airport sector, the contract for the maintenance of air traffic management systems (civil aviation) contract was awarded to RO 3.8 million and advisory services to oversee the development of Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport at RO 3.6 million. The tenders awarded during the current year also included the construction of a mixed-use investment building that includes the establishment of offices and hotel and residential and commercial units and their accessories in the high cost of Muscat Governorate for a retirement fund of civil servants worth RO 54.6 million, and the expansion and development of the sea fishing port in Dibba, Musandam Governorate to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries RO 39.8 million, construction of mosques, mosques and 5 schools for the Liwa housing project (relocation of affected families by the activities of Sohar Industrial Port, Liwa) at RO 24.5 million, renewal of the Ministry of Education contract National transport (transport) by about 6.7 million rials.
It is expected that the new projects will contribute to stimulating the economic movement and provide more work for the private sector companies, thus increasing the employment opportunities available to citizens. |
