IUSA, a company in which Raúl Salinas de Gortari, brother of former president Carlos Salinas de Gortari, has been deputy general director for a decade, obtained from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) the majority portion of a contract worth 1,349 million of weights for the supply of light meters.
The company is chaired by Carlos Peralta and has also been one of the main suppliers of CFEs in this type of devices, as well as other electrical materials. But it was not the only one that participated in the tender, because companies like Conymed, Electrometer and Protecsa were also involved.
Miguel Ángel López López, CFEs administrative coordinator, explained that the bidding decision was that 48% of the meters will be sold by IUSA, with an offer 646 million 693 thousand pesos.
For its part, Conymed will provide 39% of the devices with an amount of 525 million 336 thousand pesos; Electrometer obtained the award of 11% of the contracts with a value of 148 million 881 thousand pesos, while Protecsa only obtained 2% with a figure of 28 million 478 thousand pesos.
According to the coordinator, the total minimum amount allocated is one thousand 349 million pesos and will have a maximum amount of 2 thousand 698 million pesos. The CFE indicated that, based on the last amount, and through the auction method, 600 million pesos were saved.
These savings, said the manager of the company, seek to reduce costs in terms of subsidies and fees, as well as making the company a much more efficient body.

Stresses the fact that the tender was divided into four items. In a couple of them IUSA will be the majority supplier of the CFE with 83% and 94% of the quantity of pieces.
In the other pair, the Conymed will be the company that more meters will sell to the state company, since in both items 82% of the sales were awarded.
Currently, IUSA and Conymed, companies highly benefited by the tender, are investigated since 2017 by the Federal Competition Commission (Cofece) for the possible realization of absolute monopolistic practices in the sale of meters to the State. The investigation is in the fourth investigation period of five.
