Work Detail Thomas & Adamson’s recently appointed regional director for the Middle East, Ross Carlow, said the Edinburgh-based construction consultancy, which specialises in quantity surveying and project management, wants to expand its operations in Saudi Arabia. Carlow, who joined the consultancy this January, told Construction Week he has a mandate for Thomas & Adamsons expansion in the GCC. “We are currently looking at potential opportunities to work in [Saudi Arabia], as we believe that with our portfolio of work and our insistence on high standards, we can provide the required level of expertise and experience to service any clients there,” he said. Its focus on Saudi comes after the Scottish project management consultancy picked up several regional contracts in 2018. These included “significant projects” with Adnoc, The Crown Prince Court, and Abu Dhabi Services Company. The latter two marked repeat business wins. Thomas & Adamson also secured work on Abu Dhabi’s Founders Memorial – which opened in April 2018 – in addition to Das Island, Al Wathba Prison, and the 7km² Emaar South megaproject last year. Having won a handful of important projects, the consultancy has relocated to a larger office in Dubai, and several staff members have joined the business as well. These include chartered quantity surveyor, Thanushan Kailayapillai; senior project manager, David McIntyre; and Andrew Mason, who heads up the recently created strategic advisory service in Abu Dhabi. The expansion of its UAE team comes after Thomas & Adamson celebrated a decade of service in the UAE capital, and five years in Dubai. Carlow said he wanted to build on the “firm foundations” that the consultancy has created in the Middle East by growing the business organically, expanding its client base, and breaking into new sectors in the region. “To do that, I’ll be focusing on diversifying the services we offer to increase our service offering to existing and new clients,” he said. “In the short term, I’ll focus on continuing our exceptional levels of service and delivery, which enhances the Thomas & Adamson brand locally and regionally. Longer term, I’ll be focusing on our expansion geographically with sustainable, organic growth into other regions.”
