Work Detail Resurfacing of an important port road connection in Nigeria is now complete. The Apapa Wharf road provides a vital link to the busy port of Apapa, close to Nigeria’s commercial centre of Lagos in the south west of the country. The road has been in desperate need of repair as it had been badly worn due to heavy traffic volumes. The new road section has now been constructed from concrete in a bid to offer a long working life and to allow the route to cope better with the high percentage of heavily laden trucks it has to cope with on a daily basis. The work has been carried out by Dangote Construction, Nigeria’s leading builder of concrete roads and a part of the Dangote Group, which also includes the country’s leading cement producer. The new route is a 4km dual carriageway, with a median barrier and barriers at either side. A key feature of the rebuilt route is the new drainage system, which is intended to prevent the serious flooding that used to occur on the roadway during the rainy season. Dangote is now installing streetlights and road markings along the route, having completed the resurfacing, barrier construction and drainage works. The contractor carried out the work on behalf of the Nigerian Ports Authority and Flour Mills of Nigeria.
