Work Detail Agra: National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), has signed a MoU with Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Thursday that is going to benefit both the institutions working on the overall promotion of solar power in the country. The MoU was signed during the inaugural function of three-day national seminar on grid-connected solar Photovoltaic plants that commenced from Thursday at Auditorium University Polytechnic, AMU. Presiding over the function, AMU vice chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor said it is a moment of pride that AMU has successfully installed and commissioned 4.9 MWp solar PV plants in the campus. He said the MoU signed with NISE will pave the way for exchange of knowledge, man power and joint research project in the field of solar energy and new product development. Chief patron Prof Mansoor said that renewable energy is the future and the institute is committed to the Green Project. Assuring full support to the department of electricity, he reiterated that the university will soon introduce MTech and post-graduate diploma in solar energy. On this occasion, chief guest Dr Arun K Tripathi (director general, NISE), said that the cost of solar generation has come down to Rs 2.50 per unit as compared to Rs 17.50 per unit in 2010. Hence, today it is very economical and it competes with the cost of power generation from conventional sources. AMU Pro vice chancellor Prof MH Beg, said, “Today, our civilisation stands at a critical juncture and we are on the cusp of adopting clean energy at a scale never seen before. But for renewable power to continue its rapid advancement, the right decisions need to be taken.”
