Work Detail Agricultural education is all set to get a major infrastructural boost following the sanctioning of a slew of projects under the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard)- Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). Agriculture courses continue to be in demand due to job security and opportunities for research.

Over the next two years, over Rs.125 crore would be spent on construction of college buildings, hostels in various institutions affiliated to Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University across the State. A new campus for the university, which has been sanctioned under the A.P. Reorganisation Act, is being built on the premises of Regional Agricultural Research Station, Lam.

“Post bifurcation, the major financial assistance by the Nabard is the best thing to have happened for our colleges across the State. We have not compromised on quality and finalised the structural plans approved by the National Building Construction Corporation Limited (NBCCL), a blue chip Navaratna Government of India Enterprise. With these new buildings, the campuses will get a makeover,” Dean, Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), Tatineni Ramesh Babu, told The Hindu on Monday.

Oldest college in State

The oldest college in the State, Bapatla Agricultural College, would get a major boost with the construction of college annexe building at a cost of Rs.50 crore, student knowledge centre (Rs.5 crore), girl’s hostel (Rs.4.50 crore) and a Central Instrumentation Cell (Rs.5.32 crore). Established in 1945, the AG College, Bapatla, has been in the forefront of development of new varieties in paddy (BPT 5020, cashew nut and other crops.

The Institute of Agribusiness Management, Tirupati, would have a new building for Agri Business Management to be built at a cost of Rs.12 crore.

A new college for home science would be built on the premises of RARS, Lam, at a cost of Rs.8.50 crore.

Construction of a girl’s hostel at S.V Agricultural College at Tirupati would be taken up at a cost of Rs.4.50 crore. An electronic media centre at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Nandyal, would be built at a cost of Rs.4.05 crore. An Agricultural College has been sanctioned for Mahanandi and it would be built at a cost of Rs.6.50 crore.

With courses in Food Science and Technology in great demand, the university has proposed a new experiential learning building, girl’s hostel and a new boys hostel in Bapatla.
