First part of the new platform will go live on 31 May
The NSW Government has unveiled details of its new buy.nsw procurement platform, the first part of which will go live on 31 May.
The first release will work as a marketplace for buying and selling cloud software, cloud hosting and infrastructure; and cloud support services.
Finance minister, Victor Dominello, said that one of the things the NSW Government needs to work on is procurement.
"Selling to government is definitely not easy," said Dominello, when speaking during the CeBIT technology conference in Sydney on 15 May. "We have approximately 10,000 suppliers all of which are on-boarded through a plethora of portals across agencies.
"As a result there is no single way for a government to engage suppliers and vice versa resulting in inefficiencies on both sides."

Dominello said the aim of buy.nsw is for it to be the first single government platform for all procurement.
"The platform will make it easier for government to find and compare suppliers and for suppliers to market their services," he added.
A spokesperson for the Department of Finance, Service and Property, told ARN that that buy.nsw will expand to offer more digital and technology services in the coming months.
"Over time, more buying pathways will be added to buy.nsw in order to deliver on the vision of a single place for all procurement," the spokesperson said.

Buy.nsw will not replace ProcurePoint, which is undergoing its own transformation.
"Buy.nsw will make it simpler for sellers to register with NSW Government and to maintain the currency of their information in an online process," the spokesperson added. "Buyers will find it easy to search and filter qualified sellers for their needs.
"The cloud marketplace – and other future buy.nsw buying pathways – will accelerate the process of selecting a product or seller and contracting for supply."
