Offshore wind figures to call on Energy Secretary Ed Miliband for clarity The UK offshore wind sector will call on Energy Secretary Ed Miliband this week to clear up growing uncertainty threatening the success of this year’s critical Allocation Round 7 auction. Senior executives will take to the stage at Global Offshore Wind 2025 in London to seek clarity from Miliband and his officials ahead of the Contracts for Difference exercise, which opens in August. The DESNZ Secretary is due to open the conference on the morning of Day 1 where it is hoped he will give answers on key policy question marks hanging over the auction and creating anxiety in the sector. The spectre of zonal pricing, uncertainty over grid charging, connections reform queries and a lack of clarity on key AR7 rules such as eligibility are combining to dent already fragile confidence in the industry that continues to face wider economic and cost challenges. For the full story, read the first reNEWS Live@ Global Offshore Wind 2025 show daily (sponsored by SPIE Wind Connect) from the event in London. Other stories in the edition include a call for greater collaboration from would-be developers of the three 1.5GW floating offshore wind project zones being tendered this summer in the Crown Estate’s Round 5. Readers of the show daily will also get the lowdown on the wake effects debate as disagreements rumble on affecting six proposed offshore wind farms totalling 9GW of capacity. We talk to senior figures at Equinor and Siemens Energy in the traditional reNEWS Q&A feature while SSE Renewables managing director Stephen Wheeler gives us his thoughts on the crucial AR7 auction. RenewableUK deputy chief executive Jane Cooper also gives us the official welcome to this year’s conference and exhibition. |
