Work Detail The occasion is to recognise wind energy’s transformative powers, says globalwindday.org This year’s Global Wind Day on Sunday (15 June) focuses on the positive impact this renewable energy technology has had on people’s lives, with those in the South African wind sector focusing on the communities they serve. According to globalwindday.org the day is a moment to recognise the power of wind energy and “the people who make it happen.” “Around the world, children and adults alike explore how wind energy works, its potential to change the world, and the jobs it can create. “But it’s more than a celebration. It’s a chance to take stock. How is wind energy progressing? What challenges remain? And how can we reach new audiences who don’t yet see themselves as part of the sector? “Global Wind Day is a powerful way to make wind energy more visible, more relatable, and more human,” said the organisation. Ahead of Global Wind Day, ESI Africa visited the Aurora Wind Power’s West Coast One wind farm in Vredenburg, Western Cape. ‘The visit was hosted by the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) and ENGIE South Africa. SAWEA said that over the past decade, Aurora has consistently supplied clean energy to the national grid and contributed to socio-economic development in the West Coast region. “This milestone highlights the wider progress towards a just, inclusive, and low-carbon energy future in South Africa,” the Association said.
