Construction of the highway between Córdoba and San Francisco, one of the most anticipated road projects in the province, is moving toward reactivation following the opening of bidding processes by Caminos de las Sierras. Divided into three sections, the bidding process attracted significant interest from the private sector, with up to ten bids per section. The highway, which was paralyzed for more than five years, will finally be completed in an estimated 18 months, although administrative delays could delay its opening until 2027. The project seeks to close a critical gap of 62.9 unfinished kilometers of the 200 originally planned. These sections, currently in dispute with the National Government, had previously been awarded to the joint venture formed by CRZ Construcciones SA and Perales Aguiar SA. The contract was terminated by the current national administration, but the company challenged the measure in court, raising uncertainty about the start times for new contracts. From a technical perspective, the future highway will have two lanes in each direction, full access control, collector roads, and a maximum speed limit of 130 km/h. The route runs through a flat rural area and will ensure a safe connection between Córdoba City and San Francisco, directly benefiting the departments of Río Primero, Río Segundo, and San Justo. This infrastructure will ease truck and light vehicle traffic congestion on the current National Route 19, historically considered one of the most dangerous in the country. The bidding process was divided into three sections. The following bids were submitted for the Arroyito–Santiago Temple section : Luis Losi SA – Lemiro Pablo Pietroboni SA – UTE José J. The project is valued at $153.2 million, and it is expected that approximately 800 direct and indirect jobs will be created during its construction. With the completion of this highway, a strategic corridor linking the city of Córdoba with northeastern Argentina will be strengthened, and, by extension, with international trade through the Atlantic-Pacific bi-oceanic corridor. |
