Work Detail Chinese solar module manufacturer Longi unveiled a new 25.9% efficient photovoltaic module at the SNEC 2025 trade show in Shanghai this week, produced using low- and high-temperature passivation techniques. Chinese solar module manufacturer Longi unveiled a new solar module this week at the SNEC 2025 trade fair in Shanghai. The product utilizes the companys patented hybrid interdigitated back contact (HIBC) crystalline silicon solar cell, based on a full-size silicon wafer, which achieved a world-record power conversion efficiency of 27.81% in mid-April. The company said the 2,382 mm x 1,134 mm module offers an efficiency of 25.9% and an output power of 700 W, with a power density of 259 W/m². The temperature coefficient is -0.24%/°C. Longi noted that the cells are manufactured using both low- and high-temperature passivation techniques on the front end. He added that the cell design incorporates an advanced moisture barrier with a densely cross-linked polymer matrix. “The Tairay wafer uses an in-line solder structure with improved anti-cracking performance,” said Longi President Zhong Baoshen, without providing further details. In April, the company reported that its Central Research Institute independently developed the record-breaking HIBC cell. “By redesigning both the cell architecture and the material systems, we achieved simultaneous advances in optical management and carrier transport efficiency,” a spokesperson told pv magazine at the time. “This opens a new frontier for improving module power density and sets a benchmark for the next generation of photovoltaic performance.” Back-contact solar cells, known for their high efficiency and compatibility, have topped the efficiency rankings since SunPowers record of 20.3% in 2007 using interdigitated back-contact (IBC) technology. IBC technology has achieved eight consecutive world records.
