Work Detail Taiwan offshore wind project hits major milestone ahead of schedule Northland Power has delivered first power from its 1GW Hai Long offshore wind project in Taiwan, marking a key construction milestone ahead of the second half of 2025. The Toronto-based developer confirmed that the Hai Long project is now energised and connected to the Taipower grid, following the successful commissioning of its onshore and offshore substations. “Achieving first power is a significant milestone for Northland and reflects the dedication of our team and partners,” said Christine Healy, president and chief executive of Northland Power. “We extend our deepest appreciation to our joint teams, partners, and contractors for their extraordinary efforts.” Located off Taiwan’s west coast, Hai Long has made rapid progress since construction began. Work completed so far includes installation of all 219 pin piles, commissioning of offshore substations for Hai Long 2 and 3, and assembly of Taiwan’s first locally manufactured 14MW wind turbine nacelle. To date, 14 of the site’s 73 turbines have been installed. With full commercial operations targeted for 2027, Hai Long is expected to supply over one million Taiwanese households with clean electricity and play a central role in the government’s target of 15GW of offshore wind by 2035. “This milestone is a testament to the teamwork, technical excellence, and shared commitment from all involved,” said Toby Edmonds, executive vice president for offshore wind. “First power represents real progress, not just for Hai Long, but for Taiwan’s broader offshore wind ambitions. We’re excited to keep building on this momentum.”
