New service vessel Wind of Hope to maintain 337 offshore turbines Orsted has deployed its second service operation vessel, Wind of Hope, to support offshore wind maintenance in the German North Sea. The 84-metre vessel joins sister ship Wind of Change, which has been servicing Orsted’s 337 offshore wind turbines in the region since 2019. The deployment follows a successful service period for Wind of Hope in UK waters and marks a step forward in strengthening Orsted’s operational presence in Germany. “With almost double the wind capacity now installed in the German North Sea, Wind of Hope will play a key role in maintaining high levels of renewable energy generation,” the company said. The vessel has 90 individual cabins to accommodate technicians and crew, and is equipped with a modern diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system supported by a battery pack. This design reduces CO2 emissions and supports sustainable operations. Safety is a core feature of the ship’s design, with a motion-compensated gangway to ensure safe transfers in rough seas and a dynamic positioning system that holds the vessel within one metre of its set location during turbine servicing. “Wind of Hope is optimally designed for efficient and sustainable maintenance operations,” Orsted said. The company described the addition of the vessel as a milestone in its continued contribution to Germany’s green energy transition. |
