Work Detail 1.4GW Cenos floater backers seal ‘productive partnership’ with interconnector acquisition Flotation Energy and Vargronn have closed their acquisition of the NorthConnect interconnector project between Scotland and Norway. The developers said the deal had followed close collaboration on shared transmission infrastructure and a common grid connection point for the interconnector and the proposed 1.4GW Cenos floating wind farm off east Scotland. NorthConnect already has consent for an offshore and onshore cable route to a substation near Boddam, Aberdeenshire, that will link to SSEN’s Peterhead substation. Flotation Energy and Vargronn are eyeing 2031-32 for first power from the 95-turbine Cenos, for which an offshore consent application was made to the Scottish government in February. “We have maintained a close and productive partnership with NorthConnect over an extended period and when we learned the company was seeking a buyer, the opportunity was a natural and strategic progression of our partnership,” said Cenos project director Christopher Pearson. “When operational, Cenos will be one of the largest floating wind farms in the world, supplying clean electricity to the grid as well as offering a multi-point interconnector for future offshore developments.”
