Trenes Argentinos Operaciones has awarded the contract to repair the railway bridge over the Matanza-Riachuelo River, part of the Temperley-Haedo branch of the Roca line. The project, which will be carried out by the company Copimex , includes a series of key works to improve the operational safety of a strategic section of the metropolitan railway system. The project includes the repair of metal support sections , track adaptation , installation of counterrails and a ballast wall , as well as the treatment of structural cracks and the application of anticorrosives . The contract provides for a completion period of 360 calendar days . At the same time, the Camino de la Ribera Sur level crossing will be rebuilt . Its roadway is deteriorated and lacks barriers. While their installation is not part of this tender, the specifications call for preparing the civil works for their future installation with remote control. The intervention is part of the actions planned within the framework of the railway emergency decreed by the national government and is one of the few investments currently planned for the Temperley–Haedo branch line, whose development has historically been postponed. Recently, the construction of an underpass in San Justo was canceled, and passenger service frequencies were cut. Its worth noting that this transversal branch is vital not only for its connectivity between the Roca, Sarmiento, and Belgrano Sur lines, but also for its logistical potential: it has a branch to the Central Market and allows freight trains to travel between La Plata and Mendoza. Despite announcements in recent years about new stations, underpasses, and operational improvements, many of these initiatives have been abandoned. The repair of the bridge and level crossing marks, for now, modest progress for a branch line with enormous potential for passenger and freight rail transport in the Greater Buenos Aires area. |
