Work Detail 20MW project will power 19,500 homes and fund local benefits Wind2 has secured planning permission to build the 20MW Woolfords wind farm near West Calder, South Lanarkshire. South Lanarkshire Council approved the scheme on 30 May, clearing the way for three turbines up to 180m tall to be built 1.6km west of Woolfords village. The wind farm will generate around 70,000MWh annually—enough to supply about 19,500 homes. Wind2 hosted a public consultation in 2021 and said feedback was largely positive, with no objections lodged. The project includes a community benefit fund worth up to £100,000 annually, providing electricity bill discounts for neighbours and support for local initiatives via WATIF and the councils Renewable Energy Fund. Wind2 project manager Ewan Eley said: “The project has faced complexities, including radar mitigation and grid upgrades, but we’ve had unwavering support from Hamilton Farms Ltd.” Hamilton Farms said: “Where others have failed, Wind2 has remained committed and engaged with us and the community. We now look forward to construction.” Wind2’s development director Fraser Mackenzie added: “This is another step towards Scotland’s 20GW onshore wind target. The team has worked hard, and we’re excited for the next phase.”
