Work Detail Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer has officially established a new subsidiary in India, signaling a strategic move to significantly expand its footprint across the nations burgeoning defense, commercial aviation, services and support, and urban air mobility sectors. The company, which already has approximately 50 aircraft of 11 different types operating in India, stated on Friday that this expansion reflects the deepening ties between Brazil and India. The establishment of a subsidiary in India aims at strengthening its interests across defense, commercial aviation, business aviation, services & support and the burgeoning urban air mobility sector, Embraer said in a statement. Embraers plans include growing its local team and building capacity to capitalize on the vast opportunities within Indias aerospace and defense ecosystem. This involves creating dedicated teams for corporate functions and setting up specialized units focused on procurement, supply chain, and engineering. This development follows a significant step taken in February 2024, when Embraer signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahindra Defence Systems. The partnership aims to explore collaboration on the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) programme, with both companies evaluating the possibility of jointly offering Embraer’s C-390 Millennium, a versatile multi-mission aircraft. Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer, emphasized the importance of the Indian market. India is a key market for Embraer, and we are excited to deepen our collaboration with the Indian aerospace and defense industry, leveraging expertise and technology to contribute to the nation’s growth and Make in India efforts, he stated. In the commercial aviation space, regional airline Star Air currently operates an all-Embraer fleet, which includes E175 and ERJ145 aircraft. For defense applications, Indian operators utilize Embraer platforms such as the Legacy 600 for government and VIP transport by the Indian Air Force and Border Security Force. Additionally, the Indian Air Force operates the ‘Netra’ airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft, which is built on the Embraer ERJ145 platform. The establishment of this subsidiary marks a pivotal moment for Embraer as it seeks to deepen its engagement with Indias rapidly developing aerospace landscape.
