Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Italiane Group), together with the Municipality of Vicenza, inaugurates today the new bicycle station inside the passenger building, equipped with racks on two floors, with a capacity of 104 bicycles. The aim of the insertion of the velostazione is to promote bike-train intermodality, a form of gentle, sustainable and shared mobility. Thanks to these interventions, the eastern side of the station has been made available again and easily accessible to a new flow of users and citizens, thus increasing real and perceived safety. RFI is building a second velostation, equipped with a bike workshop, equipped with two-story racks and with a capacity of 100 bikes, which will be completed in the coming months. Access to both velostations will be via an app by holding the smartphone close to the reader located near the access doors. The current cycle station, located in the parking lot adjacent to the station building, will be decommissioned in June. By redeveloping the unused internal spaces, three new waiting rooms were also returned to travellers, with a total of 50 places, one of which has workstations. The waiting rooms are completely glazed and overlook the busiest points of the station, increasing the sense of security for those who use them. In the coming months, a new clock will be installed on the facade of the passenger building. The total investment for this first phase of works amounts to approximately 700 thousand euros. A second phase will follow, which will concern the seismic adaptation of the passenger building and its functional, plant and architectural requalification, with a new internal spatiality, a reorganization of the circulation of the travellers flows; important works on the facades will also be planned, with the removal of the alterations accumulated over time, in order to bring the building back to its original layout and enhance its historical and artistic value. A new lateral access to the station will also be built, in correspondence with the new underpass planned for construction, as part of the Vicenza high-speed crossing project. The works for the construction of the Infopoint at the Vicenza railway station, which aims to improve information on the progress of the works of the new AV/AC Verona – Padova line, will be completed by October 2025, thus allowing the official opening of the new information point in time for the autumn season. |
