Tenders are invited for Change the Playing Field: Resilient Against Disinformation Empowering Media and Civil Society in Syria. The deadline for applications is August 10, 2025. DW Akademie as an integral part of Deutsche Welle is Germanys leading organization for international media development. The organization is active in various countries in the MENA region. Part of DW Akademies strategy is to leverage the potential of new technologies to support quality journalism and media and information literacy (MIL) in MENA countries. The project Change the playing field Resilient against disinformation, funded by GIZ, aims at empowering civil society organizations (CSOs) in Syria, as well as at strengthening local journalists in exposing and tackling disinformation. Media users in Syria, especially women and young people, should become more resilient against the various forms of disinformation. Based on a study on disinformation in Syria since the fall of the Assad regime, a hands-on, context-specific toolkit in Arabic will be developed to counter disinformation in Syria. DW Akademie is now seeking applications of Syrian journalists and civil society workers who serve as multipliers, to participate in trainings on encountering disinformation. The goal is to empower participants to become trainers who can combat disinformation within Syrian communities. What to expect from us? Interactive training sessions in a safe environment on media literacy and countering disinformation based on a newly developed toolkit. Training sessions will be conducted by experienced DW Akademie trainers. Working with a toolkit especially designed for the needs of Syrian media users. Opportunity to collaborate and network with other multipliers of different parts of Syria. A certificate from DW Akademie upon successful completion of the training course. Length of course: Around 2 weeks starting October 5th . Format: This course follows an Online Blended Learning format, combining structured online sessions with flexible, asynchronous self-study phases. Participants will engage in guided online activities and discussions, while also working independently through course materials at their own pace. Language: Arabic 1st part of the workshop: Introduction into Media and Information Literacy (MIL) and the use of the newly developed toolkit on 2nd part of the workshop: Training of Trainers (ToT) Participation is not compensated, but internet units or coworking space access can be invoiced to us. How to apply What do we expect from you? For journalists: Working for local or national Syrian media Commitment to quality journalism Not being afraid of data and working with it For CSO workers: Representatives of organizations with a focus on women and youth with significant community engagement Educational background All applicants: Based in Syria Access to a stable internet connection and notebook Proven credibility and impartiality Experience in media work, communication, or civil society initiatives Awareness of the importance of media literacy and encountering disinformation Strong interest in fostering an informed public and willingness to actively counter disinformation Willingness and capacity to participate in training sessions and disseminate knowledge on to colleagues and community Actively engage in all training sessions Strong connections within various communities, regions, or target groups o Acceptance to comply with DWs values and standards of conduct Use the skills you acquired during the training to create your own media report (article, audio, or video) on a topic related to disinformation. To receive a certificate, we expect you to take part in at least 90% of the training days, and to finish at least 80% of your home assignments. What does it cost? The course is free of any charges. At the end of the course, a certificate will be awarded. Costs or expenses for internet usage or the booking of co-working spaces will be reimbursed upon submission of an invoice.
