These Services Relate To The Preparation Of The Design And Bim Model Of The New Embankment On The Left Bank Of The Canal To Charleroi At The Railway Bridges Over The Canal In Halle. The Charleroi Canal Is Included As A Class Iv, 1,350 Tonne Canal In The Core Network Of The European Waterways Network, But Does Not Meet Nautical Standards. De Vlaamse Waterweg Nv (Dvw) Wishes To Upgrade The Canal To Charleroi To Full Class Iv And, If Possible, To Class Va, In Accordance With The Upgrade Plan For The Canal To Charleroi. In Concrete Terms, This Means A Full-Fledged Expansion Of The Canal For Ships Up To 1,350 Tons, By Deepening And Widening The Canal With Renewal Of The Locks And Raising The Bridges For 3-Level Container Shipping Up To 7M20. In Accordance With The Upgrade Plan Of The Canal To Charleroi And The Drawn Up Project Eia. For The Entire Canal, The Infrastructure Of The Canal To Charleroi Will Be Systematically And Thoroughly Renovated In The Coming Years. The Aim Of The Upgrading Works Of The Canal To Charleroi Is To Promote Inland Shipping On This Canal. This Is Done By Adjusting The Gabarit Of The Canal (Widening And Deepening). The Current Banks Under The Railway Bridges In Halle Form An Important Bottleneck For Shipping. The Canal Narrows Under The Bridges, Meaning That Locally Crossing Shipping Traffic Is Not Possible There. Moreover, The Channel Is So Narrow That Ships Of 1,350 Tons Have To Sail Through Very Slowly. The Canal Must Therefore Be Widened By Constructing A New Bank Wall. Furthermore, Several Washouts Of The Current Bank Have Been Identified, Which Means That The Stability Of The Current Bank Is Not Guaranteed. Three Elements Cause Specific Difficulties: 1. Presence Of The Railway Bridge Abutments; 2. Limited Height Under The Railway Bridge For The Installation Of Machines; 3. There Is Rock And Weathered Rock In The Subsurface.
