Noble Corporation Hooks $40M Contract for Noble Resolve Jack-Up

Offshore drilling contractor Noble Corporation has secured a new contract for the jack-up Noble Resolve with an undisclosed operator, offshore Spain. The campaign will consist of plug and abandon work on 13 wells and is expected to start in the second quarter 2025 and last approximately 170 days. The contract value is approximately $40 million, including mobilization and demobilization of the drilling unit. “We are excited about Noble’s first contract offshore Spain to perform this long-awaited P&A campaign,” said Blake Denton, SVP of Marketing and Contracts. Noble Resolve is of Gusto MSC CJ50 X100 MC design, built in 2009 at Keppel Fels Shipyard Singapore. It is suitable for water depth operation at 350 ft, with maximum drilling depth of 30,000 ft. It is capable of accommodation 120 people. Spain

Japan’s First Offshore Solar Demonstrator Hits Water in Tokyo

Dutch-Norwegian floating solar company SolarDuck, in collaboration with Japanese partners, has completed the installation of Japan’s first offshore floating solar demonstrator which will be used to power electric vehicles and boats. Together with its project partners Tokyu Land Corporation, Kyocera Communication Systems Corporation and Everblue Technologies, SolarDuck launched the demonstration of its offshore floating solar unit as part of the Tokyo Bay eSG project. The demonstration will showcase the production of renewable energy from the offshore floating solar unit, storage of electricity in batteries on the ground, and transportation of the storage batteries. Rated at 80-100kW, SolarDuck’s offshore floating solar unit has been installed in the central breakwater area of the Tokyo Bay. The renewable energy generated will be used to power Open Street Corporations electric mobility vehicles and to power and navigate an electric boat. In addition, the company plans to consider the use of renewable energy for future events in the Takeshiba area of the Tokyo Bay area. The project is the initiative of Tokyo Metropolitan Governments Policy Planning Bureau, and aims to demonstrate how locally-produced renewable energy can be used for local consumption, and will contribute to the study of urban models that can be deployed in other parts of Japan and abroad. Petrobras Required to Assess Indigenous Impact of Amazon Offshore Drilling

Brazils state-run oil firm Petrobras must do a series of studies on the impact on Indigenous groups in the Amazon area of planned offshore drilling nearby in order to analyze the projects viability, according to a federal agency and documents from government agencies. The wide-ranging studies demanded by Brazils environmental agency Ibama are meant to ascertain the "social, cultural and environmental" impacts on Indigenous peoples of drilling in the Foz do Amazonas basin, part of the so-called Equatorial Margin. The demand for new studies were part of set of documents sent by Ibama to Petrobras on April 17, and seen by Reuters. The requirement is a fresh hurdle in the firms attempts to drill an exploratory well about 175 kilometers (110 miles) off Brazils northernmost coast, amid increasingly stiff resistance from local Indigenous leaders in Amapa state. All studies and requirements requested by Ibama within the scope of environmental licensing and in accordance with governing legislation were met by the company, said Petrobras in a statement, adding that it is open to incorporating new requests that may be necessary. The company has said that drilling in the region would have "no direct impact" on Indigenous communities and argued that the time to require a formal consultation with them had passed. Petrobras CEO Jean Paul Prates has said he expects to start drilling there this year still. However, the additional studies are likely to take at least six months, according to a person close to Brazils Indigenous affairs agency Funai. That may further delay the plans to explore the Foz do Amazonas basin in the Atlantic Ocean, considered Brazils most promising frontier for oil exploration because it shares geology with the coast of nearby Guyana, where Exxon is developing huge fields. A year ago Ibama denied Petrobras a license to drill in the area, citing possible impacts on Indigenous groups and the sensitive coastal biome. Days later, Petrobras appealed the decision, and has been waiting since then for Ibamas response. In October, Ibama asked Funai to weigh in on the matter before it decides on the appeal. Funai proposed in December that Ibama should require several more studies to assess impacts, according to a government memo. On April 17, Ibama sent the memo to Petrobras, notifying the firm it must attend to it. Brazil

Petrobras to Begin Drilling at Colombias Uchuva-2 Well This Month

Brazils state-run oil firm Petrobras will begin to drill off Colombias coast at its Uchuva-2 well this month, Chief Exploration and Production Officer Joelson Mendes told journalists during a press-conference in Houston on Tuesday. The promising area off Colombias coast could justify a large project to supply natural gas to the Andean country and for exports, Mendes said in March. He expects the evaluation of the wells to be ready by the beginning of 2025 and the project to then be submitted to Petrobras board for consideration. If a positive final investment decision is made, first gas could come earlier than the initially set goal of 2029, Mendes said in March. Petrobras will also submit to its board its first proposals for acquisitions in the renewables sector next week, said Chief Executive Jean Paul Prates. The acquisitions would be part of a larger plan to create a roughly 2 gigawatts (GW) renewable energy portfolio, as Prates announced in January. Brazil
