Climate Change Is Affecting Communities And Countries Across The World Especially In East Africa KenyaS Coastal Counties And Counties In Asal Regions Have Been Particularly Hard Hit Given The Frequent Extremes Of Drought And Floods Of Many Effects Of Climate Change Water Scarcity And Water Access Are Demonstrably Climate Related Challenges In Garissa And Kilifi Counties Access To Water Is Uneven In The Two Counties And Is Likely To Worsen As The Extreme Climate Stays Unchecked In Garissa County A Paltry 23 3 Of The Population Is Guaranteed Water Access While In Kilifi Only 33 7 Are Guaranteed Regular And Reliable Water Supply This Acute Shortage Has Led To Stiff Competition For This Dwindling Resource That Inevitably Leads To Ethnic And Inter Clan Conflicts Resulting In Violent Confrontations Deaths Loss Of Property And Forced Migration Internally Displaced Communities This Is Indirectly Related To Access To Land That Is Endowed With Water Resources A Commodity Precious To Both Pastoral And Farming Communities Therefore Jesuit Hakimani Centre Jhc Came Up With A Climate Smart Water Governance Project In These Two Counties To Increase Communities Resilience And State Responsiveness To CitizenS Challenges Jhc Has Been Carrying Out The Project From January 2018 And Envisions A Close Out Of The Project In September Of 2019 Jesuit Hakimani Centre Is A Civil Society Organization That Is At Once Faith Based Community Based And A Non Governmental Organization As Well Jhc Uses Research And Evidence Based Social Interventions That Inform Advocacy And Policy Dialogues Development To Increase Citizens Engagement And Action That Will Drive State Or County Responsiveness Aimed At Good Governance At All Levels Or Related Areas The Main Objective Of This Project Is Therefore Two Fold To Improve Equity And Fairness In Water Management In Order To Increase Water Access For Communities In The Two Counties Most Affected By Extreme Climatic Conditions And To Build Community Resilience To Climate Change That Is The Project Also Aims At Promoting Sustainable Community Water Seeking Behaviour At The Local Level And The Provision Of Technical Assistance And Sensitization To County Water Bodies To Enhance Equity In Distribution And Water Access At The Community Level Furthermore The Project Focuses On Promotion Of Inter County Collaboration On Water Access And Climate Adaptation Through A Working Partnership With All Stakeholders In Formulating A Policy For Intercounty Shared Water Ecosystems That Aims At Ensuring Equitable Access And
