Expressions Of Interest For Ethiopia Green Industrialization ProjectThe Government Of Ethiopia Expects The Industrial Sector To Play An Important Role In Gdp Growth Job Creation Foreign Exchange Earnings And Small And Medium Sized Enterprise Sme Development Over The Coming Years Therefore The Country Is Pursuing An Ambitious Industrialization Agenda Focused On Developing Light Manufacturing Industries That Prioritizes Sectors Such As The Leather And Leather Products Textile And Apparel Agro Processing And Pharmaceuticals In Recent Years Investments In These Sectors Have Significantly Increased Particularly In The Apparel Footwear And Textile Sectors And Most Of The New Investments Are Within Industrial Parks Ips The Government Has Initiated Industrial Parks Development Program As A Tool To Rapidly Implement Its Industrialization Strategy Currently There Are Five Industrial Parks Consisting Mostly Of Garment Industries That Are Operational Bole Lemi Phase I Hawassa Mekelle Kombolcha And Eastern There Are Additional Ips Under Different Stages Of Development The World Bank Group Has Been Actively Supporting The Government Of Ethiopia In The Implementation Of Its Industrialization Strategy Including Through Advisory Programs Lending Operations And Investments In Viable Operations As Such The Group Is Uniquely Positioned To Provide Complementary Advisory Support To The Government To Help Proactively Position The Country As A Competitive And Sustainable Investment Destination Providing Advisory Support To Goe The Main Objective Of This Project Is To Enhance The Competitiveness Of The Textile And Footwear Sectors In Ethiopia By Improving Their Sustainability Via An Adopted And Operationalized Environmental Management Mechanism The Project Will Support Efficiency Improving Interventions Which Will Lower The Production Cost And Minimize Environmental Impacts That Will Consequently Attract And Retain Investment At A Broader Level The Project Will Contribute To The Decrease Of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Through The Removal Of Regulatory Barriers To The Implementation Of Energy Efficiency And Water Efficiency Investments In The Private And Public Sectors By Providing Support To The Government And Relevant Industries On Sector Specific Interventions The Project Will Ensure That The Textile And Footwear Sector Remain Competitive While The Growth Of The Sectors Is Environmentally Sustainable Industrial Parks Will Be A Significant Focus Of This Project As They Are The Primary Tool Being Used By The Government To Develop The Textile And Footwear Industries And Are Central To Ethiopias Industrialization Strategy Ifc Is Seeking A Consulting Firm In I Improving The Regulatory And Administrative Framework For The Management Of Environmental Risks In The Selected Sectors In A Way That Will Enhance The Competitiveness Of The Industries Ii Strengthening Waste Management Systems Including Exploring Opportunities For Recycling And Reuse Iii Explore And Develop Opportunities For Efficient Use Of Resources And Iv Build Institutional Capacity To Implement Manage And Regulate Environmental Sustainability Systems Aligning With Eco Industrial Park Framework
