Tenders are invited for Design and Delivery of Two Capacity-Building Workshops on the Practical and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Journalism Practice and Media Education. Background Dawaer Foundation, in partnership with Awan Media and with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is implementing the project Provision of Support Services to the Lebanese University, Media Faculty to Advance Media Education and Institutional Capacity for Sustainable Impact. The project aims to strengthen the institutional and academic capacity of the Faculty of Information and Documentation at the Lebanese University and enhance the integration of practical and emerging media skills within academic teaching. Following the completion of the project needs assessment and consultations with the Faculty, Artificial Intelligence (AI) was identified as an important area for strengthening professors capacities and supporting the integration of emerging technologies into journalism and media education. Dawaer Foundation therefore invites qualified consultants, trainers, or specialized service providers to submit proposals for the design and delivery of two capacity-building workshops on Artificial Intelligence for professors at the Lebanese University Faculty of Information and Documentation. 2. Objective of the Assignment The objective of this assignment is to strengthen professors capacity to understand, critically engage with, and integrate Artificial Intelligence into journalism and media education. The workshops should combine practical exposure to the ways AI is transforming journalism and media practice with hands-on approaches for adapting teaching methodologies, course content, assignments, and assessment accordingly.. Particular emphasis will be placed on helping professors use AI as a tool that supports rather than replaces students creativity, critical thinking, originality, and independent work. Through practical demonstrations and exercises, professors will explore approaches for designing learning activities and assignments that encourage students to benefit from AI while maintaining their own creative voice, judgment, and intellectual contribution. 3. Scope of Work The selected consultant/service provider will be expected to: Develop the methodology, agenda, materials, and practical exercises for two AI in journalism and media education workshops. Deliver two interactive and hands-on workshops for professors from the Lebanese University Faculty of Information and Documentation. For example, but not limited to: Workshop 1 - AI in Journalism and Media Practice: What AI is changing in journalism; practical uses across research, verification, writing/editing, multimedia production, data analysis, audience engagement, etc.; limitations and risks such as hallucinations, bias, misinformation/deepfakes, source protection, copyright, transparency and journalistic ethics. Workshop 2 - Teaching Journalism in the Age of AI: How professors actually translate those changes into journalism education: course design, classroom exercises, assignments, assessment, AI literacy, academic integrity, and designing learning experiences where AI enhances rather than substitutes students reporting, judgment, creativity and critical thinking. Demonstrate how AI tools can be practically integrated into teaching, classroom activities, assignments, and student projects. Guide professors on how to support students in using AI responsibly while preserving creativity, critical thinking, originality, and independent work. Address the ethical and professional implications of AI in journalism and education, including accuracy and hallucinations, bias, misinformation and synthetic media, transparency, copyright and attribution, privacy and source protection, academic integrity, and responsible use Provide practical resources that professors can adapt and use in their courses. Submit a brief report documenting the workshops, participant feedback, and key recommendations. The final content and methodology will be agreed upon with Dawaer Foundation prior to implementation. 4. Expected Deliverables The selected consultant/service provider will be responsible for the following deliverables: Workshop methodology and training plan, including proposed agendas, learning objectives, methodology, tools, and practical exercises. Training materials and resources required for both workshops. Delivery of two practical AI in journalism and media education capacity-building workshops for Lebanese University professors. Practical exercises and demonstrations adapted to the context of media education and academic teaching. Post-workshop report, including participant information, activities conducted, key feedback and findings, and recommendations for future capacity building. 5. Target Audience The primary target group is professors and academic staff from the Faculty of Information and Documentation at the Lebanese University. The training approach should therefore be appropriate for an academic audience and should emphasize practical applications that professors can integrate into their teaching, research, and media-related academic work. 6. Required Qualifications and Experience Applicants should demonstrate: Relevant academic and/or professional Relevant expertise in AI, journalism/media, journalism education, digital media, or related fields, with demonstrated ability to apply AI within journalism, media practice, or higher education. Demonstrated experience in delivering training or capacity-building activities related to AI. Strong practical knowledge of current AI tools and workflows, combined with an understanding of their capabilities, limitations, and evolving applications in journalism, media and higher education. Demonstrated understanding of current debates surrounding AI and journalism, including journalistic ethics, verification, misinformation, editorial judgment and changing professional practices. Ability to translate technical AI concepts into accessible and practical learning experiences. Experience working with universities, professors, journalists, media professionals, or similar target groups is considered an asset. Strong facilitation and communication skills. Fluency in Arabic as appropriate for the participating professors. 7. Proposal Requirements Interested applicants should submit: Technical Proposal, including: Understanding of the assignment; Proposed methodology and approach; Proposed content and preliminary agenda for each of the two workshops; Proposed AI tools and practical applications to be covered; Implementation timeline. Financial Proposal, clearly indicating the total cost of the assignment and any applicable taxes. CV/Profile of the proposed trainer(s), highlighting relevant qualifications and experience. Evidence or examples of similar assignments, where available. 8. Evaluation Criteria Proposals will be evaluated based on the relevance and quality of the proposed technical approach, the applicants demonstrated expertise in AI and relevant media/academic applications, previous training and facilitation experience, understanding of the Lebanese University context or similar higher-education environments, and the competitiveness and reasonableness of the financial proposal. Dawaer Foundation reserves the right to select the proposal that offers the best overall value, taking into consideration both technical quality and financial considerations. 9. Duration and Location The assignment will include the preparation and delivery of two workshops, in addition to the required preparation, coordination, and reporting. The workshops are expected to be delivered in person at the Lebanese University, with the exact dates, location, duration, and logistical arrangements to be coordinated with Dawaer Foundation and the Faculty.
