Advance Contracting Notice for Construction of Class A Loading Bridges on Late Shri Geetaram Pokhriyal state highway (Marchula Saraikhet Baijro Pokhra Satpuli Pauri state highway) (SH-32) [Bridge ID 2028, 2060, 2120, 3008, 3526 & 3527] The state of Uttarakhand, popularly Known as Devbhumi (Land of the Gods) is a Himalayan mountain state located in northern India, carved out of Uttar Pradesh on 9th November 2000 as the 27th state of the country. The state is characterized by rugged Himalayan terrain, fragile geology, steep river valleys, and high seismic vulnerability. Covering a geographical area of 53,483 sq. km, nearly 86% of the state is hilly terrain prone to multiple natural hazards including flash floods, landslides, earthquakes, wildfires, and cloudbursts. The frequency and intensity of such disasters have increased in the past decade, often attributed to climate change. These events cause loss of life, disrupt infrastructure, and significantly affect the states economy, particularly the tourism sector. Post-disaster restoration routinely requires large investments and reverses years of development efforts in a short span. The Bridges constructed in many State Highways of Uttarakhand are of lower loading capacity (Class-B) and single lane width (4.25 m) which were built years back when there was less traffic load on these roads but in recent past years the increase in tourism and pilgrimage activity caused increase in foot count on the roads resulting congestion. Also parallel infrastructure development projects have caused the movement of heavy load vehicles which have raised the demand of heavy loading (Class- 70R/ A) bridges. Therefore, reliable and climate resilient Roads and Bridges infrastructure is critical for supporting tourism, pilgrimage, agriculture, hydropower development, Ropeway project, rail projects, trade, rural accessibility and emergency response across the state.
