Tenders Are Invited For Research And Development Services And Related Consultancy Services – Fe 15.0731/2025/Hrb - Research On Components Of The Old Leverkusen Rhine Bridge: I) Detection (Especially Weld Seam Testing)
Research And Development Services And Related Consultancy Services – Fe 15.0731/2025/Hrb - Research On Components Of The Old Leverkusen Rhine Bridge: I) Detection (Especially Weld Seam Testing). The Leverkusen Rhine Bridge Carries The A1 North Of Cologne Over The Rhine. The Bridge From 1965 Had To Be Replaced By A New Building Due To Increased Traffic. The First Partial Structure Of The New Bridge Was Opened To Traffic On February 4, 2024. The Old Bridge Could Then Be Dismantled. The Former Structure Was Initially Opened In 1965 With Two Lanes Plus A Shoulder In Each Direction. The Expansion To Three Lanes In Each Direction Took Place As Early As 1968. The Leverkusen Rhine Bridge Was A Cable-Stayed Bridge Made Of Central Girder Construction Made Of Steel. The Longitudinal Stiffeners Of The Orthotropic Deck Slab Were Designed In The Form Of Champagne Flute Profiles. According To The Normative Regulations In The Relevant Regulations, No Mathematical Fatigue Proof Was Required At The Time Of Planning. The First Damage To The Orthotropic Road Slab Occurred As Early As The 1970S. After Further Cracks Appeared After The Damage Was Repaired, Structural Changes Were Made In 1990 Through Cutting, Which Contained The Development Of Damage. Any Damage Discovered During The Structural Inspection In Accordance With Din 1076 Was Continually Repaired. The First Damage To The Cross Member System Was Discovered During Such A Test In 2007, Which Has Led To Regular Special Tests Being Carried Out Since Then. The Damage Increased Steadily And In 2011 Damage To The Cross And Main Beam Systems Was Discovered. From The Discovery Of The First Damage To The Dismantling Of The Old Bridge, The Leverkusen Rhine Bridge Was Constantly Repaired And Upgraded. Bast Has Been Researching The Strengthening Of Steel Bridges Since 2004 And Numerous Projects For The Recalculation, Testing And Strengthening Of Steel Bridges Have Followed. For Example, Damage Categories 1 To 4 Were Developed. The Damage That Has Occurred Over The Years Could Be Attributed To Various Causes Of Damage: The Material Used In The Construction Of The Leverkusen Rhine Bridge Has Internal Material Defects. It Is Known That Such Defective Material Was Also Used In Other Bridges. In Addition, The Design Is Not Sufficiently Fatigue-Proof Based On The Regulations At The Time. The Constant Increase In Traffic Volume, Especially The Increase In Heavy Traffic, Plays A Crucial Role Here. With The Decree For The New Construction In 2016, The Idea Arose To Secure Components Of The Old Rhine Bridge For Research Purposes In Order To Gain Further Knowledge, As The Problems That Occurred With The Leverkusen Rhine Bridge Will Be Repeated In Similar Bridges Of That Time. In The Bast Project Fe 15.0634 “Use Of Components Of The Leverkusen Rhine Bridge For Research Purposes” Key Requirements For The Planning, Awarding And Implementation Of Targeted Investigations Were Developed. The Corresponding Components Were Identified
