Elicio and BayWa win 270MW French floating wind tender

The consortium between wind energy producer Elicio and renewable energy developer BayWa has been announced as the winner of the tender to develop France’s first commercial floating offshore wind farm. The award is the outcome of a competitive tender process initiated in 2021 for an offshore floating wind project with a capacity between 230 and 270MW, located in the south of Brittany off the coast of Lorient. The floating offshore wind project, to be named Pennavel, is expected to generate approximately 30% of Brittany’s current renewable energy production and power over 450,000 inhabitants annually. According to the mutual statement made by the consortium, Pennavel will be the first commercial floating wind farm in the world to be awarded a long-term Contract for Difference (CfD). The project also has a secured grid connection with French transmission system operator RTE which is responsible for the transmission assets including the offshore substation and export cables. This is the second floating wind success by Elicio and BayWa in Europe following the 960MW Buchan offshore wind farm off the northeast coast of Scotland, together with BW Ideol. The consortium commits to spending €5m ($5.44) to support the development of socio-economical activities related to the project in the Brittany and Pays de la Loire regions. Through crowdfunding, the local population will have the opportunity to invest in this project. The floating offshore wind farm will generate around 4.5m working hours during the construction phase, and more than 30 permanent jobs during the operational one. The Pennavel project will be part of the French government’s goal to commission around 50 offshore wind farms by 2050 and realise 45GW of power. France

Seatrium wins work on SBM’s Guyana-bound Jaguar FPSO

Singapore shipyard group Seatrium has been awarded a contract for the topsides fabrication and integration of a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel by an SBM Offshore subsidiary. Under the contract with Single Buoy Moorings, Seatrium will construct several topside modules, riser, mooring, and umbilical structures, followed by the installation and integration of these structures and all topside modules for the FPSO Jaguar. The Group will also support SBM Offshore with pre-commissioning and commissioning work. The Jaguar is designed to produce 250,000 bopd and have an associated gas treatment capacity of 540 mmscfd, a water injection capacity of 300,000 barrels of water per day, and a storage capacity of 2m barrels of oil. Work is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year. Upon completion, the FPSO will be deployed to serve in the Whiptail field in ExxonMobil’s prolific Stabroek block offshore Guyana. “FPSO Jaguar [marks] our 29th major project for SBM Offshore, a strong affirmation of our client’s confidence in Seatrium as a partner of choice in floating production systems,” said Marlin Khiew, EVP of oil and gas for the Americas at Seatrium. Seatrium has delivered three FPSO projects in Guyana for SBM – Liza Destiny, Liza Unity, and Prosperity – all of which are working for ExxonMobil. The Singapore firm is also on track to deliver its fourth Guyanese FPSO project, which is also set to work for the US giant, named One Guyana to SBM. Guyana

Seadrill offloads Qatar jackup fleet

Seadrill has officially offloaded three of its jackup rigs and an equity interest in its Qatari joint venture, Gulfdrill. The New York and Oslo-listed offshore rig owner has struck a $338m deal with its joint venture partner Gulf Drilling International (GDI) to take over the business and the jackups West Castor, West Telesto and West Tucana. The transaction, subject to approval by Qatari authorities and GDI’s parent, Doha-listed Gulf International Services (GIS), should close in the third quarter of this year. Gulfdrill was established in 2019, and Seadrill has been looking to exit the business since June last year. “Our divestiture of the Qatar jackup fleet and exit from the joint venture are consistent with our ongoing efforts to strengthen and simplify our business and will allow us to focus on Seadrill’s core business: operating deepwater rigs across the Golden Triangle and similarly advantaged geographies,” said Simon Johnson, president and chief executive at Seadrill. Following the sale, the company will own 10 drillships and manage two as part of a joint venture with Sonangol, four semisubs and a pair of jackups. In 2022, Seadrill sold seven jackups operating in Saudi Arabia for $628m to subsidiaries of Middle East driller ADES. Qatar

Odfjell Technology, a spinoff of Odfjell Drilling that specialises in offshore operations, well-service technology, and engineering solutions, has acquired consultancy, design, and development services firm McGarian TDC. Odfjell Technology said that the acquisition would further enhance the product line offering of its Well Services business area, enhancing its capabilities in the slot recovery and plug and abandonment sectors of the energy industry. The consideration is made up of a base consideration of £3m plus potential earn-outs dependent?on?commercial success?and?product development targets over?the?next three years post-closing. McGarian TDC was formed in June 2005 to support the oil and gas sector and develop its own intellectual property and products. To date, as part of its portfolio, the company has granted patents and patent applications filed for whipstock product lines and survey tools. Their technology has applications in casing milling, packer milling, abandonments, rigless abandonments, fishing, remedial, and drilling operations. Earlier this week, Odfjell Technology won a contract worth around $14.8m to provide tubular running services for COSL Drilling Europe. The contract will run for three years and comes with the option for two additional one-year periods. In March this year, the company also secured a four-year contract plus options with Equinor for drilling services on four fixed platforms on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, starting in October.
