Space weather prediction tool
The Sun affects the overall weather in our solar system through its magnetic fields, radiation and by ejecting particles and matter. As a result, it affects the environmental conditions in the Earth’s upper atmosphere with a direct impact on society. There is an imminent need to develop tools that can reliably predict space weather. Funded by the European Research Council, the SYCOS project is interested in advancing a previously developed tool for predicting space weather. Unlike conventional methods that rely on magnetic fields on the solar surface, the SYCOS approach aims to measure internal solar oscillations as the basis of the predictions. |
