Australia Project Notice - Non-Binding APEC Care Compact

Project Notice

PNR 54525
Project Name Non-binding APEC Care Compact
Project Detail Project No. PPWE 06 2023S Both paid and unpaid care work is critical social infrastructure, essential for human development, well-being and the functioning of the economy. However this work is often undervalued and underpaid. Women undertake a disproportionate share of unpaid domestic care work. Formal and informal carers in the care economy are also more likely to be in casual or insecure work, and/or working multiple jobs. This has a range of social and economic impacts on women and the broader economy. By focusing on both the unpaid and paid care economy – the Non-binding APEC Care Compact and workshop will identify the different types of policy decisions that APEC economies are taking to invest in the care economy to assist women’s workforce participation and economic growth, better support formal and informal carers (predominantly women) with decent jobs and a greater valuation and re-balancing of unpaid caring responsibilities to provide women with choice and flexibility with respect to their workforce participation. The Non-binding APEC Care Compact will outline a set of voluntary principles that will seek a minimum standard for formal and informal carers. It presents a cross-fora collaboration opportunity with the HRDWG.
