Project Name CONTRIBUTION TO IFRC EMERGENCY APPEAL LEBANON 2020
Project Detail The Project aims to alleviate the situation of people displaced by the disaster as well as ensuring medical treatment and service provision, not only for those injured in the blast directly but also for those more prone to COVID-19 infections due to aggravated living conditions. Expected results The IFRC aims to achieve the following results through the assistance programme as laid out in the “Lebanon: Beirut-Port Explosions” Emergency Appeal: - Shelter provided to up to 10,000 families / 50,000 people by putting them up in emergency shelter, supporting rental costs or through other means - Basic needs covered of 10,000 families / 50,000 people through provision of essential items, food and WASH services (in-kind or through cash / voucher assistance - CVA); - Three Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Stations rehabilitated and damaged equipment replaced to strengthen first-aid and medical transportation capacities; - Two temporary staging centers equipped and operational to provide support to affected population; - 36 health centers and 9 Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) re-stocked and equipped to cover primary health care needs of affected population - Two Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) Centers rehabilitated and re-stocked - 13 Blood Transfusion Centers re-stocked with reagents, testing and storage materials to deal with increased demand due to the blast - Provision of PPE for all medical staff and volunteers engaged in the activities (6.500 people approximately) Target group / Beneficiaries Target groups of the Austrian contribution (500.000,00 €) consist of those directly benefitting from basic service coverage as well as those directly or indirectly covered through restoring Blood Transfusion Service Center capacities and provision of Personal Protective Equipment for the Operation in Beirut: - 6.000 beneficiaries Basic Assistance and WASH: The ADA/AutRC contribution will ensure the coverage of basic needs, either through distributions of items themselves (in form of hygiene kits, food packets, drinking water, etc.) or – depending on the results of market assessments – through CVA. - 700 beneficiaries under Health: Out of these, 200 volunteers and staff will directly benefit through the provision of PPE, curbing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the course of the operation. The number of indirect beneficiaries who benefit through breaking the infection chain is hard to quantify but is much higher. Additionally, 500 persons will benefit from blood donation services, that are ensured and restored through supporting the three BTS (considering collection / supply capacities of the LRC).
